Other Tribunals and Commissions

There are other tribunals and commissions set up under specific laws like Press Council of India has been under Press Council of India Act to handle complaints against the print media; Competition Commission and Competition Appellate Tribunals have been set up under Competition Act, 2002 to prevent practices having adverse effect on competition, to promote and sustain competition in markets, to protect the interests of consumers and to ensure freedom of trade carried on by other participants in markets, in India, and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

Similarly Central Electricity Authority, Electricity Regulatory Commissions and Electricity Appellate Tribunal have been constituted under Electricity Act, 2003 for taking measures conducive to development of electricity industry, promoting competition therein, protecting interest of consumers and supply of electricity to all areas, rationalization of electricity tariff ensuring transparent policies regarding subsidies, promotion of efficient and environmentally benign policies. Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India have been set up under Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, 1997 to regulate telecom services, including fixation and revision of tariffs for telecom services which were earlier vested in the Central Government.
