Military Laws

The cases of persons in armed forces are taken up by Armed Forces Tribunals (AFTs). AFTs have been constituted under Armed Forces tribunals Act 2007. AFTs take up disputes and complaints about commission, appointments, enrolment and service conditions in respect of those covered by the armed forces viz. Army, Navy and Air Force, and hearing of appeals arising out of orders, findings or sentences of court martial. The AFTs have original jurisdiction in service matters and appellate jurisdiction in court martial matters. The matters of armed forces are governed by Army Act, 1950, Navy Act, 1957, Air Force Act, 1950 and rules framed thereunder.
